Another day, another fan letter
So I wrote another fan letter, this time to the author/illustrator Sandra Boynton. Yes, Boynton as in the greeting cards that were so popular in the 80s. Well, over the past few years she has written a number of really cute and fun children’s books, a large proportion of which reside in Decker’s library. Being such an avid collector of her work, I figured I might as well write and tell her how much we like her books. I didn’t hear back from Sandra Boynton herself, but I did hear back from Pamela Boynton, who I figure must be her sister or sister-in-law or cousin or partner or something. I looked her up - she designs jewelry and sailor’s valentines.
Anyway, here’s my correspondance:
(Letter from Frith):
Dear Sandra Boynton,
My son Decker is one year old, and since he was very little we have read your books and enjoyed them a lot. Old enough to have opinions now about which books he wants mom to read to him, invariably Decker will grab a Boynton book and ask it to hear it multiple times. The great part is, your books are so fun, clever, and colorfully drawn, that I never get tired of his choices! It’s been nice to know that when we hit the bookstore, there seems to always be at least one more of your collection that we don’t own yet, and it usually goes home with us that day.
Anyway…I’ve rambled enough but just wanted to tell you how much our family appreciates your stuff, and thank you for the smiles we have shared as we read your books together!
Sincerely,
Frith O’Steen - Pleasant Hill, CA
(Letter I got in response):
Hello Frith,
I am so happy to hear your son has such good taste in books! I will pass along your praises to Sandra and I know she will be most appreciative.
Thank you so much.
Regards,
Pamela Boynton
Cool, huh? (yes, my shamelessness never ends)
