That Primal Scream You May Have Just Heard From the Direction of Pleasant Hill?

It’s the collective angst of all the parents who received notice this morning that Hippity Hoppers was cancelled because the facilitator got sick. (Imagine the sound of Charlie Brown after Lucy pulls the football away).

Rain or shine - we’re getting out and going to the park, kid!

Babies Babies Everywhere!

So - it’s been the month o’ babies! Two weeks ago, our friends Jay and Dawn had their baby girl, Riley. Then our friends Kay and Thor had their baby girl Jet last week! And on Saturday we went to a baby shower for our friends Leisa and Rob, and she is due any day as well! So exciting! I can’t wait to tease Thor and Jay about the idea of my son (the ‘older man’) dating their daughters someday. Heh.

Congrats to everyone! Try to get some sleep! (yeah, right).

in hindsight, this should have been a no-brainer…

Um, so for some reason I thought it would be a neat idea to get Decker some big fat crayons to play with. (Well, I had read in some places that kids his age like to color. These are the same books and websites that also claim that Decker should be reciting Shakespeare by now, so go figure, you think I’d learn). So I carefully pulled out a notepad of blank paper, selected a crayon to give to Decker, showed him to use it, and he immediately tears off around the room proudly gripping the crayon in his little fist. Attempts to get him to a) NOT use the crayon anywhere besides the paper, and b) to actually try to use the crayon in a “normal” fashion (rather than banging the blunt end up and down on the notepad) were - surprise surprise - futile. I’m really not sure what I was thinking.

On the other hand, I am feeling somewhat smug (though really for no good reason, as I’m sure thousands of others caught it too) because last night I was watching “Lost” and they made a reference to someone buying a paper company in Slough (England), and I was like all “Doh! Total shout-out to “The Office”!”. I then went to Television Without Pity today to check the mini-recap, and sure enough, they mentioned it as well. So I’m cool, but not really. I’ll take what I can.

By the way, does anyone have any good ideas for menus for 17 month old kids? (Besides fruit and quesadillas and cheerios? We’re running out of ideas…).

i know it’s technically still winter…

but i have to say i am very happy to see some spring blossoms coming out to say hello! man, i hate winter. i wish we could go straight from jan 1 to immediate springtime on jan 2. i also wish they made a self-emptying diaper genie, but oh well.

my son, btw? passed out cold in his bed. i went to check on him, and his foot was stuck in the railing. i moved it and he didn’t even stir. that’s awesome. wouldn’t it be great if we could all sleep like kids? (without having to take something like nyquil beforehand).

What am I up to?

Oh, about 5 foot 3 or so…HA!

Yeah, ok. Not so funny. I hang out with a small person who speaks his own language all day, and thinks that pretending to sneeze his plush ball into the air is hilarious. (Well, it IS, kinda).

Anyway - here’s my latest:

Books of the week: “The Rule of Four”; “America (The Book)”. Both really good. “America” made me laugh out loud. “The Rule of Four” was sort of like “Da Vinci Code”, but I liked it better b/c it took place on a university campus and the protagonists were college students. Interesting twists, sympathetic characters. I recommend!

If you have a chance next year: Go see some of the shows in the SF Sketch Comedy Festival (end of January). Went with my folks and sisters (Sean stayed home for ‘date night’ with D), and saw some really funny stuff, especially a stand up act by Dan Piraro (writes the comic “Bizarro”). He was freakin’ hysterical. I can’t describe it, but it was highly visual and lots of deadpan. Awesome times. I love living near the city.

I’ve  been taking Decker to playgrounds, and he’s really liking them, but is also not quite so wieldy yet, so today he is sporting a split lip, which makes it look like he got into a tussle with another toddler (he didn’t - his mom is just slow on the draw and didn’t catch him in time as he slipped on the platform stairs to the little kids’ slide). I felt like all the parents there were watching me, thinking “Rookie. Who let her have a kid?”. (I know, the invisible audience psych phenom left over from junior high days…what can I say?).

That’s about it! I’m picking up my folks’ steam cleaner today, and will attempt to resurrect what I can of our living room rug this coming weekend - wish me luck!
