in hindsight, this should have been a no-brainer…

Um, so for some reason I thought it would be a neat idea to get Decker some big fat crayons to play with. (Well, I had read in some places that kids his age like to color. These are the same books and websites that also claim that Decker should be reciting Shakespeare by now, so go figure, you think I’d learn). So I carefully pulled out a notepad of blank paper, selected a crayon to give to Decker, showed him to use it, and he immediately tears off around the room proudly gripping the crayon in his little fist. Attempts to get him to a) NOT use the crayon anywhere besides the paper, and b) to actually try to use the crayon in a “normal” fashion (rather than banging the blunt end up and down on the notepad) were - surprise surprise - futile. I’m really not sure what I was thinking.

On the other hand, I am feeling somewhat smug (though really for no good reason, as I’m sure thousands of others caught it too) because last night I was watching “Lost” and they made a reference to someone buying a paper company in Slough (England), and I was like all “Doh! Total shout-out to “The Office”!”. I then went to Television Without Pity today to check the mini-recap, and sure enough, they mentioned it as well. So I’m cool, but not really. I’ll take what I can.

By the way, does anyone have any good ideas for menus for 17 month old kids? (Besides fruit and quesadillas and cheerios? We’re running out of ideas…).
